Apparel

Tops and Bottoms

Running apparel can be a welcome gift to all runners. One word of caution, know the size of the person your buying for. I am tall and struggle with finding a long pair of tights. I recently purchased the Rainier Reflective Printed Tight. Not only are they long enough, but they are reflective which makes them great for sunset runs.

Long sleeve tops are a great idea for winter running. I highly recommend wool and the Flyout Wool Long Sleeve can’t be beat. It has a watch cut out, which fits my Coros Apex perfectly. Wool is great for a tank top as well, Flyout Wool Racerback Tank will keep your runner cool all summer.

Let’s talk shorts. After wearing my first pair of Oiselle shorts, I was sold. They have several options to choose. Toolbelt Rogas are one of my favorite shorts, as they are very breathable and hold everything you need on your run from gels, your phone to a set of keys. O-Mazing Long Shorts are my go to trail running shorts. The name says it all.

Outerwear

Let’s not forget jackets and vest for colder weather. The Brooks Shield Hybrid is a great vest that will keep you warm as the temperatures drop. A great wind breaker jacket is sure to please. The Brooks Canopy Jacket is an excellent option. One of my favorite jackets, as it is comfortable and keeps me nice and dry.

Accessories

Socks are a great gift for all runners. Two of my favorites are Smartwool and Swiftwick. The Smartwool Women’s PhD® Run Light Elite Low Cut Socks are my favorite winter running socks. The keep my feet nice and warm. The Swiftwick Aspire Zero is an excellent sock and is one of my all time favorites.

As we head into winter, think about hats, gloves and mittens. These items are also perfect for stocking stuffers. Women’s Merino Sport Fleece Training Beanie is a perfect hat for women with long hair, as it has a ponytail exit. A nice pair of gloves are great gift under any tree. Firecracker Reflective Gloves are a win win. They will not only keep her fingers warm, but are reflective. Perfect for an early morning run. The Extreme Thermo Mitt by Inov will not only keep your runner warm, but has the added feature of being touch screen friendly.

Watches

I had done an exhaustive search for a watch finally settling on the Coros Apex. Check out my reviews here. The Coros Apex has a great price point for a watch. This is a gift that any runner would love to receive. A nice addition to the Coroz Apex is the Coros Pod. This is perfect for the runner looking for more data on their runs. The Coros Pod is on top of my wish list this year!

Safety

Nathan Ripcord Siren Personal Safety alarms are great to take along on a run and will blast sound if there is an emergency. Whether your running alone or with a pack, all runners need visibility gear. Noxgear visibility vests are one of the best. I love wearing mine on early morning runs. You will definitely stand out in these.

Headlamps are another great idea for any runner. As a mom, I am always trying to fit in runs. Sometimes heading out early in the morning to get my run in when it’s still dark. When choosing a headlamp, look for the number of lumens. Anything greater than 200 is perfect for a road run. You will want to look for greater than 300 for trails. The Icon 700 Headlamp by Black Diamond has 700 lumens and will spot any nasty tree roots on a dark trail. The Sprint 225 Headlamp by Black Diamond is light and would be perfect for those early morning runs.

Hydration

Let’s start with hand held water bottles. You can never have too many. There are some bottles out that that also keep the liquid cold or prevent freezing during winter runs. The Nathan Speeddraw Plus Insulated Flask does just that and is a great option.

Hydration vests are perfect for any runner who is looking to go longer distances or doesn’t like a handheld. I have a Nathon VaporAiress and it is the right amount of storage and is bounce free. Nathan hydration packs are specifically designed for women.

Books

A book is a great gift idea for all runners. If your buying for a new or seasoned ultra runner, I would suggest Running Your First Ultra by Krissy Moehl, North: Finding My Way While Running the Appalachian Trail by Scott Jurek, or Sky Runner by Emelie Frosberg.

If your runner loves to cook, Shalane Flanigan and Elyse Kopecky have got you covered. Run Fast Eat Slow is the first cookbook the pair created and Run Fast Cook Fast Eat Slow is the second cookbook. I personally own both and have tried multiple recipes and they are all amazing.

Miscellaneous Gifts for Runners

Are you looking for some stocking stuffers? Gels, waffles or bars make a great stocking stuffer for a runner. Honey Stinger is my go to for nutrition. I would recommend buying a sampling of a few different items.

All runners have to deal with chaffing from time to time. Squirrel’s Nut Butter anti chafing products are all natural and work amazing. As an added bonus they repair and restore skin.

Still Unsure of The Perfect Gift for a Runner?

Gift cards are easy and always a welcome gift for all runners. I would suggest to avoid the big box stores. Support your local running store. In Green Bay, we are lucky to have a great local store Run Away Shoes. This is a great place to also pick up additional gifts!
